Air India Business Class

Air India is India’s flag carrier and a Star Alliance member, currently undergoing a comprehensive transformation following its acquisition by the Tata Group. The airline operates a wide long-haul network connecting India with Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, with new aircraft and cabin products being introduced at pace.

Seat and cabin

The Airbus A350-900 features Air India’s newest business class with enclosed suites in a 1-2-1 layout, lie-flat beds extending to 78 inches, sliding privacy doors, and a 21-inch seat width. Each suite includes a 17.3-inch 4K entertainment screen, wireless charging, and Bluetooth audio connectivity. The Boeing 777-300ER fleet is being retrofitted but currently features a mix of older lie-flat seats in a 2-2-2 configuration with limited aisle access. The 787-8 offers a 1-2-1 herringbone layout with lie-flat seats that is more competitive.

Dining and service

Air India serves multi-course meals blending Indian and international cuisines, with standout dishes including butter chicken, biryani, and regional Indian specialties. The wine list features international selections alongside Indian beverages such as masala chai and lassi. Meal presentation has improved significantly on A350 routes with new crockery and linens. Service standards are evolving, with newly trained cabin crew delivering a more refined experience on flagship routes.

Lounge experience

Air India operates lounges at Delhi and Mumbai, with the Delhi Terminal 3 lounge offering hot Indian dishes, a bar area, and shower facilities. The lounges are undergoing refurbishment as part of the airline’s broader upgrade program. At international stations, passengers access Star Alliance partner lounges. The lounge experience is currently a work in progress, with significant improvements expected as renovations complete.
