How to book, step by step
- Search on airfrance.com or klm.com logged in to Flying Blue, choose "Book with Miles" and use the calendar to find the cheapest dates.
- Pick Standard unless you are sure of your plans: Light cannot be changed or refunded and excludes the lounge.
- Transfer bank points (for example Amex Membership Rewards, where available in your country) only after you have seen the price. Check this month's Promo Rewards first.
Finding award availability
- Lowest prices show up most on Paris–North America and Amsterdam–North America outside summer and Christmas.
- Promo Rewards are published at the start of each month with discounts on selected routes and cabins.
- La Première (Air France first class) award seats are extremely limited; we check them on request.
Miles or cash?
Paying cash, a return business class ticket Paris → New York starts from €1,300 and is typically €4,000 (our benchmark, September 2026). Two one-way awards at 75,000 miles each against the typical fare work out at roughly 2.7 euro cents per mile before taxes and surcharges. If the cheapest cash fare is close to the taxes you would pay on the award, keep your miles and pay cash.
Watch out for
- Business Light excludes lounge access and changes; the saving over Standard is 15,000 miles on the Paris–New York example.
- Flex costs many more miles but roughly halves the surcharges; it only makes sense if you value free changes.
- Dynamic pricing means the same route can jump well above 100,000 miles on peak dates.
